YOU'VE heard how young Francis Newman
At Pickering, up the street one year
Chanced by a job in a shoe shop,
Coverdale's was its name, so I hear.
Before long things were changing,
Talk of tellies, kettles, things new.
And before you could say "Bob's your uncle",
Young Bill and Mick jumped on board too.
'Twas a lovely romance whilst it lasted.
Part of fixtures and fitting was she.
Swapping wellies for tellies and syke like,
And for 38 years making tea.
Fearing no one, not even Mick Snowden,
Frank Carrington came and then went.
But Francis said "'ere, wait a minute,
To hoover and wash steps is time well spent."
So now it is her time to leave us,
To wemmell and shuffle back home,
Even Lampways can't manage without her.
They've sold out rather than go it alone!
So here's to a happy retirement,
And if ever there's some time to spare,
We'll always be happy to serve you,
With some tea next to Ron, on your chair.
