Derwent

DERWENT YFC will hold their annual "Muck Chuck" fundraising event on Saturday, March 12, around Stamford Bridge and closest villages.

The event has run for a number of years now and has proved to be a successful method of providing

a much needed few quid to help run the club.

So what's it involve? It's very simple, acquire the services of a 110hp tractor and ten ton trailer load of

the smelly stuff.

Then expect a dozen or so of our most dedicated members to chase after it wielding pitchforks and wheel barrows, just hoping along the way that one or two people will buy some of the prized muck for the extortionate price of just £1 per barrow load!

To pre order now phone Neil Headley on

07901 685931.

Helmsley

LAST Saturday, Helmsley Young Farmers held their annual dinner dance at the Feathers Hotel Helmsley.

The venue was full to capacity and well supported by other Ryedale club members.

Trophies were presented to members for achievements throughout the year, and congratulations were given to members for winning the district rally on home ground at Studford Farm, Ampleforth, last year.

Guest speaker was David Flintoft and his wife, Barbara, from Glaisdale.

David, being an ex member of Danby Young Farmers, gave a very humourous speech and kept them entertained with his many jokes.

They all finished dancing the night away to Venom disco.

Rillington YFC

ON January 18, the club enjoyed an excellent evening watching Mother Goose, this year's Malton panto.

The week after, members met to prepare for the ploughing match by painting posts. The club would like to thank Mr and Mrs Douglas for letting them use their shed and preparing some lovely supper.

On February 1, with the rally approaching, we decided to have a 'how to judge' evening. Thanks go to Mr Dale and Mr Lund for their help in this.

The next meeting was held on February 15, when members travelled to Helmsley's domino drive. They would like to say thank you to Helmsley for a very enjoyable evening.

On February 19, possibly one of the coldest Saturday mornings so far, young farmers travelled from all over the area to the ploughing match.

A very successful day was had and they would like to say thank you to all those who took part, to the judges, Mr and Mrs Dale for providing the judges lunches and to Mr Keyworth for the site.

The next meeting on March 1, which was an evening of pig judging at Ireland's farm. It was an excellent chance to practice for the rally, and all the members did very well, with the results as follows: first Megan Tuplin with 94 points; second Julie Midgeley with 91 points; third John Douglas with 90 points and fourth Helen Bolton with 80 points.

Thanks go to Irelands for the use of their farm and stock and to the master judge Mr Daukes. Rillington Young Farmers meet on Wednesday evening. For more information call John Douglas on (01653) 668215.
