A POLICE incident has closed a bridge in York.
Reports came in shortly after 4pm that Clifton Bridge was closed to traffic both ways as part of an ongoing investigation with both North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service on the scene.
A police spokesman said that initial reports of a body in the River Ouse turned out to be a false alarm.
He said: "It was initially reported by a member of the public as a possible body in the river.
"We attended along with fire service personnel, but it turned out to be a floating piece of canvas material."
The bridge has now reopened to traffic.
