PEOPLE in York are being warned about a scam currently doing the rounds.

North Yorkshire Police say people are receiving scam texts claiming to help people claim their Winter fuel allowance.

A force spokesman said: “We are aware of a scam text which invites people to complete a form to receive the 2024 winter heating allowance.

“The linked website is not legitimate. If you receive this text, please do not click on the link and do not enter any of your personal information. There are also variations of the example.

“Most people get winter fuel payments automatically if they are eligible and do not need to claim. Find out more at https://www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment/how-to-claim”
