A new head teacher has been appointed at a top school in York, following its recent inspection.

As previously reported by The Press, The Mount School in Dalton Terrace failed to meet 'standard' in three areas after a report published by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).

The areas of leadership, safeguarding implementation and risk assessments were raised by the ISI. There were also concerns raised over how trips abroad had been handled.

In May, David Griffiths stepped down as principal at the school to take up a role on The Mount’s recruitment, admissions and marketing committee. He has now been replaced by new head teacher, Anna Wilby.

Joining from her post as deputy head teacher at Ashville College, Harrogate, the top role at the school will revert to the traditional title of "head of The Mount".

She will begin her role in January 2025.

The school says the recruitment process was led by a panel of governors and involved pupils across the school and a range of staff.

"Anna has strong aspirations and a clear strategic vision for the future of our school," a spokesperson said.

"Everyone at The Mount is looking forward to working alongside her when she starts in January. Anna is ambitious for our school and eager to work with the team here to hit the ground running."
