One sheep died and another was injured after being attacked by a dog in North Yorkshire.

The incident of ‘sheep worrying’ – a criminal offence of chasing a flock of sheep and biting or injuring the animals – happened overnight between Sunday, September 15, and Monday, September 16, in Lower Dunsforth, near Boroughbridge.

North Yorkshire Police urges anyone who saw the attack to get in touch by emailing fiona.wilding@northyorkshire.police.uk and quoting reference number 12240171133.

“If you live in or near a farming area, you must make sure your dog cannot escape from your property, as it may find its way onto land containing sheep,” a force spokesperson said.

“It is vital you keep your dog on the lead around sheep, even if you can usually trust it to come to call.”
