A man has raised hundreds of pounds for a community library by completing his 35th Great North Run.
John Fortnum completed the half marathon in three hours, seven minutes, and 24 seconds, raising £685 for Derwent Valley BRIDGE Community Library.
This was £185 more than his £500 target.
Mr Fortnum said: "A massive thank you to everyone who sponsored me.
"The weather was a real challenge but I am particularly proud of the fact that I came in 166 in the over 70s category.
"These much needed funds will be put towards the library running costs, which currently stand at approximately £10,000 a year."
The library held a competition to guess Mr Fortnum's time, with Val Cooley winning a hamper of homemade goodies.
The BRIDGE in Derwent Valley BRIDGE Community Library stands for Books, Resources, Information, Diversity, Groups, Education, reflecting the variety of services it offers.
The library is run by the community.
Its former incarnation, West Ayton Library, was marked for permanent closure by North Yorkshire County Council in 2011 unless an alternative community-based solution could be found.
The library reopened under its current name in May 2012.
Its catchment area includes East and West Ayton, Hutton Buscel, Wykeham, Brompton, Sawdon and Snainton, East and West Heslerton, Sherburn, Ganton, Staxton, Seamer, and Irton.
