THE Malton branch of Halifax is to close next spring as part of a series of cuts across the country.
Lloyds Banking Group is to shut down a 55 branches across its Halifax, Bank of Scotland (BoS) and Lloyds brands.
It will be closing the Halifax branch in Malton on April, 8 2025, however, has said it will be providing a Community Banker to support customers after the closure
Lawrence Finkle, Group Public Affairs Manager, said: "Before reaching this decision, we carried out a thorough assessment of the alternative services that are available and how our customers are banking with us. As with all proposed closures, these plans have been through LINK’s original independent cash-access assessment. However, new Financial Conduct Authority rules mean that LINK will reassess access to cash in the local area. LINK will publish the outcome of this review on www.link.co.uk/our-assessments (the webpage will be available by 18 September).
"Many customers now choose to bank through their mobile app, online, or over the phone. As a result visits to our branches have fallen. The number of transactions by our personal customers using this branch have decreased by 48 per cent over the last five years. I am sure people can appreciate that we must respond to the changing behaviours of our customers. When the branch closes, customers can continue to manage their money on our mobile app, online, by calling us, or in person at the local Post Office or by visiting our Community Banker.
"All customers who regularly use the branch will receive a letter with details of other ways they can bank with us. For example, our customers can carry out the majority of their everyday banking activities at the Post Office, such as withdrawing or depositing cash, as well as paying in cheques.
"I would like to reassure people that we will fully support our local customers through this change, including those who may be vulnerable. We will explain the range of alternative ways that people can bank with us after the branch closes and provide tailored support for those who need it. I’ve attached details of the alternative banking options available for local people – as well as details about how we made the decision.
"Our colleagues who work in the branch will be offered the chance to move to a role at another branch or another part of our business."
