A new art exhibition has opened at an attraction near York.

As previously reported by The Press, 'The Botanical World of Mary Delany' opened today, September 10, in the National Trust’s Beningbrough Hall, near York.

It is the first venue in the United Kingdom to host the exhibition, which is presented in partnership with the British Museum.

The Botanical World of Mary Delany is part of the British Museum's 'unseen' touring exhibition. It includes the work of Rebecca Stevenson, which includes the ‘Mary, Maria, Marianne’ sculptures.

The photographic display offers visitors a chance to explore Mary Delany’s ‘paper mosaics’.

Created by painting, cutting and layering paper, these botanical artworks and their detail are considered as scientifically accurate specimens.

Starting at the age of 72, Delany created more than 900 such artworks, stopping only when her deteriorating eyesight made it impossible to continue.

The pieces have previously remained largely unseen due to their fragile nature and existence within bound books, cared for by the British Museum.

The exhibition can be seen in the Reddihough Galleries, on the first floor of the hall.
