A DOZEN people were arrested following a police day of action.

Operation Tornado was carried out across the Ryedale and Scarborough area last Wednesday, September 4.

A police spokesperson said: "We wanted to give you an update following the arrests we made last week during Operation Tornado.

"From warrants executed with the assistance of our Operational Support Unit, to arrests made by our Response and Neighbourhood Policing Teams, the day of action has assisted our officers in getting suspects before the courts.

"We are also able to continue investigations against those who threaten to bring harm to our communities.

"Twelve arrests were made during Operation Tornado on Wednesday 4 September 2024."

A 46-year-old man has been charged to appear before magistrates on 23/9 for shop theft.

An 18-year-old Scarborough man, who was wanted by North Yorkshire Police was arrested in Humberside’s area and is currently remanded in custody in prison.

A 28-year-old man, currently of no fixed abode, has been charged to attend court for 3 acts of assaulting emergency workers and one act of causing a disturbance on NHS property.

A 21-year-old Scarborough man, was charged and remanded to appear in the Magistrates Court for 15 offences, including theft from a motor vehicle, shop theft, fraud and burglary.

A 37-year-old Scarborough female was also charged to appear at the Magistrates court on the 23/9 for two offences of shop theft, whilst a man originally from the York area will be joining her on three offences of shop-theft. Both the man and woman have bail conditions not to enter some of the businesses in Scarborough to prevent re-offending.

Three people were arrested in Malton for drug related offences, an 18-year-old Malton man, a 19-year-old Malton man and a 30-year-old Malton woman were released on bail for possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs.

A 56-year-old Scarborough man and a 43-year-old Bridlington man were released under investigation following their arrests for possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

Senior Operational Commander, Superintendent Rachel Wood, said: “The day of action last Wednesday allowed us to make a collective impact on those who are causing harm in our communities. We are supporting our businesses, not only by means of proactive patrols and arrests, but by streamlining the processes to provide evidence, allowing us to put offenders before the courts. We are constantly working with our partner agencies to reduce the influences behind drug crime and to provide support and guidance to those who need help in our neighbourhoods."
