Come and join the volunteer team
The Milton Rooms is looking for people who are passionate about the arts, eager to learn new skills and looking to give something back to the community.
The Malton venue is seeking enthusiastic volunteers for a variety of roles, whether it’s being involved in the buzz of live events, honing technical skills or offering behind the scenes support.
There is a range of exciting volunteer roles available:
• Front of House: The welcoming face of the Milton Rooms. Front of House volunteers greet guests, check tickets and ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. It is a great way to develop customer service skills and meet new people.
• Bar volunteers: Help to serve drinks during events, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for patrons. This role is perfect for those looking to gain experience in hospitality and to enjoy working in a social environment.
• Tech Crew (lighting and sound): For those interested in the technical side of events. Assist with setting up and operating the lighting and sound equipment for performances. It is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with professional audio-visual technology.
• Office volunteers: Support the smooth running of the Milton Rooms by helping with administrative tasks. Develop valuable office and organisational skills from data entry and correspondence to organising schedules and assisting with event planning.
• Marketing volunteers: For those with a flair for creativity or a knack for social media, to help to promote events and engage with the community by assisting with marketing efforts. The chance to gain valuable experience in digital marketing, social media management and public relations.
One of the perks of volunteering at the Milton Rooms is the chance to enjoy live performances for free. Whether volunteers are working Front of House, assisting with tech, or helping at the bar, they will often have the opportunity to catch a variety of shows, from live music to theatre productions, while being an integral part of the team that makes the events happen.
For younger volunteers, this is also an excellent opportunity to earn valuable points for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and strengthen UCAS applications. The skills and experience gained through volunteering, such as teamwork, communication, technical skills and problem-solving, are highly valued by universities and future employers alike.
All ages and experience levels are welcome. Whether a seasoned volunteer or trying it out for the first time, the Milton Rooms welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds. No prior experience is necessary.
Anyone interested in learning more is welcome to go along to the next Milton Rooms volunteers' evening on September 24 at 6.30pm. It is a perfect chance to meet the team, ask questions and find out how to get involved. The evening will include a tour of the Milton Rooms, an introduction to the various roles, and a chat about how people can contribute.
