TRAIN passengers across North and East Yorkshire are facing disruption this morning (Saturday, August 24), with services forced to cancel in the aftermath of Storm Lilian.

Services running between Beverley and Scarborough may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes due to a National Power Grid failure, according to Northern.

"Trains for Scarborough will terminate and restart at Hull. Trains for Bridlington will terminate and restart at Beverley," a spokesperson for the train company said.

"National Power Grid and Network Rail are working to resolve the problem."

They added: "A public bus service operates along this route which is provided by East Yorkshire Buses.

"Northern Rail ticket holders can travel on Transpennine Express services between York and Scarborough in both directions until further notice.

"Northern Rail ticket holders can travel on Cross Country services between York and Sheffield in both directions until further notice.

"Customers can travel between Hull and Scarborough by travelling via York."

Services between Hull and York have also been axed.

Travellers online have complained after having their bank holiday plans disrupted, with travel to the coast and York Races cancelled.

This morning's services were cancelled up until midday and the barrier fault is still reported to be ‘ongoing’ with no clear time as to when a fix can be expected.

It comes as gusts of up 60mph battered the region yesterday, bringing disruption across the railway.
