A group responsible for renewing 'Fairtrade town' status for Malton and Norton met with Thirsk and Malton's MP this month.
Representatives of the Malton and Norton Fairtrade Group spoke with Kevin Hollinrake, the Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton, about the importance of tackling climate change.
The discussion comes after the group achieved renewal of Fairtrade town status earlier this year with the help of the community.
Members Janice Gwilliam, Janice Clark, and Jo O'Leary Quinn discussed with Mr Hollinrake the challenges to farmers in the developing world and in the UK.
They also encouraged Mr Hollinrake to join the Fairtrade All Party Group in parliament, and to support more green policies within the Conservative Party.
Fairtrade tea, coffee, and biscuits were supplied for use in the constituency office, and the group asked for this to be encouraged in parliament too.
Mr Hollinrake was also invited to join community events run by the Malton and Norton Fairtrade Group.
