A LEADING expert on the Roman Empire is to give a talk in Malton.
Dr Simon Elliott FSA, an archaeologist, historian and broadcaster, will speak on Septimius Severus in Scotland: The Northern Campaigns of Rome's African Emperor on Thursday, August 15.
An Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Kent, Dr Elliott is also a Trustee of the Kent Archaeological Society and has recently completed two terms as a Trustee of the Council for British Archaeological Society.
He has authored over 20 books on Roman and classical world themes, including best sellers and award winners.
Dr Elliott's Roman Britain’s Lost Legion was a BBC History 2020 top ten Book of the Year. Simon also regularly appears across all media as a presenter and expert, again speaking on Roman and classical world themes. He is currently helping run two major archaeological excavations in Kent, one a new Roman fort one a villa.
Dr Elliott will talk about Septimius Severus' campaigns in Scotland in the early 3rd century Severus, the ageing Roman emperor, launched an immense 'shock and awe' assault on Scotland that was so savage it resulted in 80 years of peace at Rome's most troublesome border.
Dr Elliott's talk will be at 7pm in the Assembly Rooms, above Malton Museum.
