Norton on Derwent Town Council has a casual vacancy for a new town councillor.

Cllr Di Keal, Mayor of Norton said: “If you are interested in the future of Norton and committed to working in the community for the benefit of local people, a vacancy has arisen on the council which would suit someone who has the time and enthusiasm to offer.

“The Town Council meets monthly on the third Monday evening and this is the basic commitment, but there are also various sub-committees that individuals can sign up for and we appoint people to represent the council on outside organisations such as local charities and groups, for example Norton Hive and the Malton and Norton Area Partnership.

“There are also activities in the community that councillors are encouraged to get involved in such as the Christmas Lights switch on and our very popular annual Seniors Party.

“You need to be at least 18 years old to become a councillor, be registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked, or owned property here for at least 12 months before you apply.

“No specific qualifications are needed to become a councillor - life experience is the best thing to bring to the role”.

For an application form or to arrange an informal chat about the role of town councillor contact Town Clerk, Claire Eade, on 01653 695348 or email clerk@norton-on-derwent-tc.gov.uk
