A POPULAR village event celebrated its 40th anniversary last week.
Around 60 people took part in Acklam Moveable Feast fundraiser, which had not been held since 2019, and was originally always run by the church committee.
To enable the event to continue the church and the village hall committees merged and had a combined effort to run the feast producing some fabulous food all served at various venues in the village.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: "It was a great success and well attended with around 60 feasters.
"The first venue was always originally held at Dr Francis Jackson’s home and as luck should have it, the new owners wished to keep this tradition going. So, the aperitif of a glass of sherry or soft drink of your choice was offered along with the sale of raffle tickets with the main prize being a 7.2l Morphy Richards Air Fryer along with nine other prizes all donated locally.
"The starters were held four doors up at Bracken House where a selection of four different pates and French bread were served. The old favourite, a tombola was also held here"
Main courses were served in the village hall with a superb selection of cold meats, quiches, salads and wine was offered. The village hall which was renovated during lockdown is a wonderful venue to host such events and holds around 50 people seated and can be hired for a small charge."
The spokesperson added: "Desserts and coffee were then served at The Grange with a fabulous selection of sweets on offer, cheesecakes, death by chocolate, fruity mousses and much more. A superb display and all tasted divine".
There had also been a Car Boot sale in June which raised some extra money and all proceeds from the events were divided equally between the Church and the Village Hall with a portion given to the Parkinsons Support Group for their generosity with the raffle prizes.
"The committees would like to thank all those who supported this event and participated. Special thanks must go to our kind suppliers of raffle prizes and meat including Paleys of Malton, Leonis Café, The Whole Hogg, Ryedale Parkinsons Support Group and Mr and Mrs Watson of Leppington."
The event raised a total of £1472.50.
