A RYEDALE care home organised a memory walk with a twist,
Rivermead, in Norton, opened the event to the local community to come along and show their support for the fundraiser for Dementia UK
Starting from Rivermead Care Home off Scarborough Road, the group headed to Malton's St Mary’s RC School, then onto the Wentworth Arms pub in Old Malton for some lunch.
The next stop was the Coastliner’s bus depot, then onto Hyde Park pub in Norton, before heading back home to Rivermead.
Sarah Jackson, general manager at Rivermead care home, said: "Residents, their relatives and staff were so thrilled to be stepping out in aid of a charity that means so much and is very close to our hearts here at Rivermead.
"We planned to walk four miles but almost doubled our mileage and got 7.62 miles. This was such a fantastic achievement for everybody, even with a torrential downpour and some bumpy paths we made it.
Sarah added: "Norman, one of our residents, was thrilled to be visiting St Mary’s school as he used to be a primary school teacher for many years, he delivered a lovely bag of sweets to the children who then kindly donated them as a prize for their summer fair.
"John was overjoyed to be back at the Coastliner’s depot, he drove the busses when the depot first opened 30 years ago and gladly got back in the driver’s seat with a kindly gifted Coastliners jacket.
"Kenneth used to enjoy many nights In the Hyde Park pub and was greeted by some familiar faces who were happy to see him back. Ken rekindled a pastime by playing a game of darts with a young man whom Ken taught darts to many years ago."
Sarah added: “At our home we care for a lot of people living with dementia and provide support for them and their families. We have a Memory Lane Community, an environment purposely designed to help those with dementia live active and meaningful lives.
"The current total raised stands at £1,004 and we would like to thank everyone who has donated. We are still taking donations which would greatly be appreciated.
