The Royal Oak Pub and Kitchen in Old Malton has won an award from The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The pub was awarded join runner-up in the Rural Pub of the Year by the Scarborough and Ryedale Branch of CAMRA.

Bob Watmore, from the Branch, said: "After steady improvement in all aspects at the pub it was our pleasure to award them joint Runner Up in the Rural Pub of the Year for the Branch area last Saturday. The winner was the regular one of the Sun Inn, Pickering, and the other joint runner up was The Peacock at Snainton.

"This is the first time the Royal Oak has won an award, and it is well deserved with the changes they have made since taking over to the regularly high beer quality and selection range, mainly from a wide number of Yorkshire breweries.

Bob said the landlords, Steve and Amanda Purcell, have built a strong locally employed team and provide a great service to the local community through their food, beers, Beer Festivals and live music events.

"I had the pleasure of presenting the Award on behalf of the Branch as the local committee member," he added.

Steve said: "I would like to thank all locals and CAMRA for their ongoing support, and I am very pleased to receive this Award for the team here at The Royal Oak Pub and Kitchen. I'm very proud that since we started we have had well over 500 different beers from predominantly Yorkshire breweries, and after that we stopped counting.

"We are all looking forward to celebrating at our next Beer Festival, barbie and live music event over the weekend of 14th, 15th and 16th June."
