MALTON Primary School has been nationally recognised for its work in promoting road safety and healthy living.

In November 2023 the school was awarded Local Authority School of the Year for the second year and also Regional School of the Year. The Regional award led to an invite to the National Award ceremony in London where Malton Primary was presented with a Platinum award.

Mandy Carpenter, Lead for Transition/Modeshift Stars at Malton Primary School said: "We have implemented several initiatives to promote road safety, healthy living, and environmental awareness. These have included a child and truck safety demonstration, walking trips, and Road Safety Week, which involve the School Council actively supporting the '20s Plenty' campaign. Other initiatives include the introduction of a 5-minute walking bubble, road safety assemblies, Bikeability training, Clean Air Day, Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel participation, and collaborations with local authorities and organisations to improve safety and encourage active travel.

"The school's dedication to Travel Plans was showcased at Parent's Evening through a display highlighting our accreditation achievements and we proudly received the title of 'Modeshifts STARS Regional Primary School of the Year'.

"Our continuous commitment to encouraging active travel remains a source of pride, fostering a culture of thoughtful and active transportation choices. Our school emphasise leaving a lasting legacy by instilling road safety, healthy living, and environmental consciousness in our children for the future.2
