Children across Ryedale have been enjoying a busy end of term with seasonal activities.

From concerts to Nativity productions, the youngsters have been entertaining friends, family and people in the local community.

Last week, Pickering Community Junior School held their annual Carol Service at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in the town.

A school spokesperson said: "As well as performing some Christmas songs, brass instrumental pieces and readings, the children also had the opportunity to sing with The Ryelarks, a community choir that rehearses at the school on a Monday evening. The Ryelarks are always looking for new members so please contact Alison Davis at alison@singinginryedale.co.uk if you are interested in joining.

"On Wednesday, the school's Singing Squad visited Alba Rose and 5 Whitby Road care homes to perform some Christmas songs and were made to feel extremely welcome. Well done to all the children who took part in these events and to all the staff who made them possible."

Children at Leavening and Gillamoor Primary Schools took to the stage to perform Christmas plays.

Pupils at Gillamoor took part in the traditional Nativity while youngsters a Leavening performed an alternative called 'Prickly Hay'.

A spokesperson said: "Sam works hard cleaning the stable with his friend Shrew but he feels unimportant just feeding and looking after the animals. That is until Mary and Joseph arrive to stay, bringing a special baby and many more interesting visitors too! Sam soon discovers that the little jobs that he does to help the animals can make a big difference and that a tiny baby has the power to change the world!"
