Cllr Keane Duncan has just issued the following update on the flooding and road closures.

𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The River Derwent level at Malton is currently 4.45m, a 19cm drop from yesterday.

The ground water level is currently 21.693m, a rise of 35cm from yesterday. Groundwater can now be seen coming out of the ground and is contributing to the ongoing issues.

There are currently 20 pumps deployed, with an additional three being deployed this morning/afternoon. This is broken down into 6 in Old Malton, 12 in Malton and 5 in Norton. There are also three Yorkshire Water tankers in the area supporting.

Council staff will be on the ground today to support the community and answer any questions.

𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬

County Bridge and Church Street will remain closed today.

The ground water flooding on Castlegate could delay the opening of County Bridge. Church Street will remain closed while pumps are deployed.

Norton Road is currently closed. An additional pump is being deployed this afternoon to help alleviate the water on the road hopefully allowing it to be reopened.

Engineers have been requested to change the phasing on the Scarborough Road/Westfield Way traffic lights, to ensure traffic can flow optimally.

𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭

The river level in Malton is expected to continue to drop throughout today. However, levels will start to increase this evening in response to recent rainfall.

Levels are not expected to rise higher than what we have seen over the last few days. Levels will remain high until Thursday before starting to drop again.

Light showers are expected tonight and this week.

Ground water levels will continue to rise. Ground water levels remain high for a few weeks.
