North Yorkshire Councillor George Jabbour has been elected as Vice Chair of a committee that provides the oversight of the performance and direction of one of the largest pension pools in the UK.
Border to Coast Pensions Partnership, which has won several national awards, was created to pool the investments of 11 Local Government Pension Funds, which include North Yorkshire.
Each of the 11 funds has a representative on the Joint Committee of Border to Coast, which has c.£40 billion (as at 31st March 2023) of assets under management invested for the benefit of members of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Two Councillors stood for the role of Vice Chair of the Joint Committee at a public meeting last week. After presentations were made by each of the candidates and a secret ballot, George Jabbour was voted in with 9 votes out of 11.
Councillor Jabbour said: “I am very pleased to have won the trust of my colleagues to become the Vice Chair of the Joint Committee.
“I look forward to working with Councillor Doug McMurdo as Chair, with the other members of the committee and with the officers of Border to Coast.
“The Joint Committee plays a critical role in overseeing the investment performance of the contributions made by both the employees and employers of the Local Government Pension Scheme in many areas around the country.”
