A town crier from Helmsley has won a trophy at the 2023 Championships of the Ancient & Honourable Guild of Town Criers in Calne, Wiltshire.
The event, which attracted 29 criers from all around England, also saw the participation of three international criers from Bermuda, Nova Scotia, and South Australia.
After two rounds of cries, David Hinde found himself in a "cry off" for second place against John Griffiths, the town crier from Sleaford.
Ultimately, Hinde was awarded third place and Griffiths took home second place.
Hinde expressed his pride in the achievement and acknowledged the tough competition from the talented field of criers.
He said: “Proud to have won some more silverware for Helmsley at the Ancient & Honourable Guild Of Town Criers 2023 Championships at Calne, Wiltshire, on Saturday.
"After two rounds of cries , I had the excitement of taking part in a second place 'cry off' With Sleaford Town Crier John Griffiths before the Judges awarded me the third place trophy.
"So very, very close!
"A great result against a very competitive field of good criers."
The championship trophy was ultimately claimed by Terry Ford from Otley.
