Keldy Forest in the North York Moors National Park has become the fifth location in the park to offer all-terrain mobility vehicles, known as Trampers, for hire.

Forest Holidays at Keldy now joins other areas in the park, such as Sutton Bank National Park Centre and Dalby Forest Visitor Centre, in offering this service.

The initiative is part of the North York Moors Accessibility project, which aims to open up the park to people with disabilities and additional accessibility requirements.

This year, the North York Moors Accessibility project received national recognition for its efforts to make the park more accessible.

The project, led by VisitEngland, involved local businesses and attractions improving their facilities and raising awareness of accessibility.

The project won the Digital PR Campaign of the Year award at the TravMedia Awards.

Initiatives such as 'mystery shopping' by people with disabilities and partnerships with disabled influencers helped to create a more inclusive environment for visitors to the park.

In addition to the project's success, the National Park Authority has collaborated with Outdoor Mobility to introduce Trampers in more locations around the North York Moors.

Forest Holidays at Keldy is the latest location to offer these bookable vehicles, and Sutton Bank National Park Centre has also added a second Tramper to its hire fleet.

The Tramper network in the North York Moors has benefited individuals like 17-year-old Evie Cass from Kirkbymoorside who would otherwise struggle to access certain areas.

Evie said: "We’ve always been an outdoorsy family and walking with the dogs in the countryside was something I did daily. The fact that I can still get out on a Tramper and spend time in the woods or see the view from Sutton Bank is so lovely. They’re easy to use and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone.”
The North York Moors Accessibility project also worked with 12 tourism businesses to improve access for those with additional requirements.

Individuals interested in using a Tramper can visit the outdoormobility.org website to become a member and book a vehicle.

Membership starts from £2.50 for a two-week trial, with annual membership costing £10.

Access to Trampers in the growing network across England is included in this membership, with no additional fee required at any of the North York Moors locations.
