A new volunteer fundraising group has been established in Ryedale to support a charity that provides care for individuals nearing the end of their lives.

The Ryedale Area Fundraising Group for Marie Curie was formed just last month and has already made a significant contribution by raising £257.30 at the Thornton-Le-Dale Gala.

The group is now seeking additional members to assist with their charitable efforts.

Community Fundraiser Amelia Forrest says that the organization's nurses make a tremendous impact on the lives of those with terminal illnesses and their families.

The fledgling group, currently comprising only a few members, is particularly interested in hearing from potential volunteers who can help organize events in areas such as Pickering, Thornton-Le-Dale, and Malton.

They are also looking for support during Marie Curie's major fundraising campaigns, including the Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Party.

Amelia said: “Volunteering is not only a great way of giving something back to the community, it’s also a chance to meet new people and make new friends.”

She expressed gratitude to anyone who can spare some time to assist in raising the necessary funds to support Marie Curie nurses, who provide free care to individuals with terminal illnesses in their own homes, as well as at Marie Curie hospices.

Marie Curie, an organization celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, offers support to individuals throughout their illness by providing practical information, trained volunteers, and a listening ear.

The charity is a pioneer in research focusing on improved methods of caring for those with terminal illnesses.
