THE Uggla family has acquired the majority shares of York City football club this afternoon- completing the takeover. 

394 Sports Ltd have completed the takeover of the club in acquiring a 51 per cent stake, purchasing former chairman Glen Henderson's shares after they were put up for sale at the back end of last year. 

The ownership group is led by the mother and son of the Uggla family, Julie-Anne and Matthew, with the pair becoming co-chairmen of the club and being added to the club directors board alongside two York City Supporters' Trust appointed members, who will be Alastair Smith and Mike Brown.

The Uggla family previously attempted to complete the takeover of Yeovil Town football club, but after their attempts failed the Glovers suffered relegation to the Vanarama National League South.

Speaking on the takeover, Matt said: “It’s amazing to get it done. It has been a pretty quick process and we need to hit the ground running because things are getting underway and we need to catch up with other teams who have had all summer to prepare.

“We can really take this club as far as we want to take it, I think the sky really is the limit, there’s not really a ceiling on this club.

"It’s just a case of putting the right structures and plans in place to really go for it.

“The new owners would like to put on record their thanks to the Supporters Trust for their extensive work in helping us to complete the takeover.

"We look forward to working with all supporters to deliver a brighter future for the club.”
