A book shop in Pickering is to host three author talks over the coming months.
Pickering Book Tree, Market Place, is to host a series of talks for its early summer line up.
The events kick off with a talk from Syrian author Zoulfa Katouh on Monday, June 19, at 7pm.
Zoulfa is to discuss her novel, As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow, which was published to critical acclaim and has already been shortlisted for the British Book Awards.
It tells the story of love and loss, set during the Syrian revolution.
The book was published by Bloomsbury Kids & YA UK and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in 2022.
Zoulfa is said to be the first Syrian Young Adult author to be published in the UK and US.
While in England, Zoulfa will visit secondary schools across the country from Monday, June 19, at the same time as the paperback release of the book.
During her stay in North Yorkshire, the author will speak at Lady Lumley’s School and Ryedale School.
This visit will take place during Independent Bookshop Week, an annual event dedicated to celebrating indie bookshops across the UK and Ireland, which will this year run from June 17-24.
It also ties in with Refugee Week from June 19th-25th.
In July, two book launch events are to take place at Pickering Book Tree.
On July 6, Dr Jim Leary will speak at the book shop at 7.30pm.
The talk will mark the publication of the author’s book, Footmarks: A Journey Into our Restless Past.
The book provides an eye-opening exploration of the history of human migration, mobility and interaction with landscapes.
Dr Jim Leary is an archaeologist at the University of York and a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
A passionate walker, much of his research is centred on the way people moved around in the past.
At the event, Jim will talk about his work and the research that has gone into his book. There will also be a Q&A session and book signing.
On July 18, Kate Gray will visit the shop at 7.30pm to celebrate the launch of her psychological thriller, The Honeymoon, which will be published by Welbeck on July 20.
The book tells the story of when a couple’s dream honeymoon turns into their worst nightmare.
Kate will talk about the book and her writing, answer questions and sign copies.
Tickets for all three events can be booked at the shop counter or online via pickeringbookree.co.uk
Pickering Book Tree has extended their opening hours, with the shop now open 10am to 4pm every day apart from Sundays.
From the beginning of July the bookshop will also open with extended hours between 10am and 6pm on Fridays.
