A TASTE of the Caribbean will be coming to Malton next month.
Brass Castle brewery is hosting a ‘Caribbean Calling’ event at the Milton Rooms, on Saturday May, 27 in the midst of the Food Lover’s Festival,
The carnival will serve up Trinidad and Tobago-inspired music, food and drink.
Headlining the event, will be UK-Trinidadian Soca music star Triniboi Joocie, fresh from a successful run to the semi-finals of the latest series of ITV’s The Voice.
Brass Castle will be serving some of the UK’s best beers alongside carnival rum punch and will have a Trinidadian chef on hand to give everyone a taste of the Caribbean.
Just as at Carnival proper, Brass Castle are inviting people to join in the fun and dress for carnival at ‘Caribbean Calling’, with prizes for the best dressed event-goers.
The twin island Caribbean state of Trinidad and Tobago is the home of Carnival, while London’s Notting Hill Carnival was originally organised by ex-pat Trinidadians.
Brass Castle’s Head Brewer Sam Teale said: “We recently collaborated on some beers with a craft brewery in Trinidad and got the chance to enter into the carnival spirit.
"I remember seeing Levi Roots perform Jamaican Reggae hits to a Malton audience during the Food Lover’s Festival, so it made perfect sense to bring some sunshine back but this time with accompanying Trinbagonian Soca music. You’ll know Soca music, even if you think you don’t - like ‘Hot, Hot Hot’, ‘Follow The Leader’, or ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ - it’s catchy, fun and perfect for carnival vibes.”
The British High Commission’s chef in Port of Spain will be coming to the Malton Food Lovers Festival to showcase Trinidad & Tobago fare and cooking techniques. She will also be on hand to serve-up authentic ‘Trini’ food at ‘Caribbean Calling'.
Brass Castle will also be running a beer hall in the Milton Rooms throughout the Food Lovers Festival which runs over the late May Bank Holiday weekend
Brass Castle Brewery has been brewing in Malton for just over ten years. The brewery has won a number of national awards for its ales and lagers, including UK Supreme Champion Cask Beer. It specialises in vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free beers.
