OVER 100 patients were being treated for Covid in hospital over the latest weekly period - but there have been no deaths in Ryedale, figures show.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Trust was caring for 115 patients with Covid in hospital as of March 8, according to NHS England data.
This was an increase from 98 on the same day the previous week.
Latest figures from the UK Covid dashboard show a total of 151 people had died in Ryedale – which was unchanged from on the week before.
The number of beds at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid increased in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 68.
Figures also show that 86 new patients with Covid were admitted to hospital in York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the week to March 6. This was up from 62 in the previous seven days.
A spokesperson for the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Trust said: "While the number of Covid positive patients remains high, it is important to note that most patients who have tested positive for Covid are in hospital for other conditions and are asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms.”
Across England there were 7,655 people in hospital with Covid as of March 8, with 166 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
Nationally, the number of hospital patients with Covid has increased by 20 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 42 per cent.
The Trust spokesperson added: “As both Covid and flu continue to circulate in the community, it is vital that all those eligible continue to get their vaccines which we know is the best way to get protected and significantly reduce the risk of serious illness.
“It is also important that the public know what they need to do to keep well.”
