A YOUNG farmers club in Ryedale held its first ploughing match in 14 years – with over 40 tractors in attendance.

The Kirkbymoorside Young Farmers Club held the ploughing match on Sunday, February 19, at Appleton Common, with the land provided by the Turnbull Family.

A spokesperson for the club said: “There was a great turnout on the day with 40 tractors and two shire horses and to top it off the sun was shining!

“It was lovely to see so many competitors with a wide range of experience and spectators from both agricultural and non-agricultural backgrounds.”

From the event, the club raised £920 for club funds, which the spokesperson said will help to continue providing members with weekly educational and social activities.
