Ryedale Charities Together have been provided with  a new accessible minibus to help support local people.

The minibus was provided with support from the Kirkby Foundation which was established in 2011 to support capital projects where there is a specific and genuine need, primarily in the North of England and Kenya.

Since conception, the Foundation has supported nearly 290 individual projects at a total funding of over £2.2m. Its success is mainly due to the development of working partnerships and supporting tangible goals and objectives.

Stuart Brown of the Kirkby Foundation said: “We have known the components of Ryedale Charities Together for many years and have seen the individual organisations grow in belief, esteem, and purpose. The logical step, post covid, has been the realisation and willingness to work together to achieve shared objectives. The Community Transport initiative is a prime example. Individually the project was unviable, collectively it provides a valuable resource which will serve their needs for some years to come. The Kirkby Foundation is delighted to be associated with the project and supporting organisations expressing their total focus on working with the local community and providing opportunities for the disadvantaged in society.

Ryedale Charities Together is a group of local charities serving the Ryedale community. The charities are Next Steps, Ryedale Carers Support, Ryedale Community Transport, Ryedale Food Bank, Ryedale Special Families and Sight Support Ryedale. These charities provide a wide range of social care support to all ages.

Lisa Keenan of Ryedale Special Families said: “Transport is a really crucial part of our services and this minibus will be used to provide support to many Ryedale residents, including disabled children and their families, people with mental health issues, elderly people and blind or partially sighted people. It is a real boost to our services and we are very grateful to the Kirkby Foundation for this opportunity.”

Ryedale Charities Together came together in 2000 with the aim of fundraising jointly. Their joint working has more recently led to Community One Stop events which gives residents the chance to meet face to face and followed the lockdown restrictions. The One Stop events are attended by charities, local organisations and local government organisations. They are monthly drop in sessions, usually with a café and activities taking place – come and see us in Pickering, Malton, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley. See our facebook page for dates and venues.
