Saturday 7th January
York City of Girls Under 13s League
Rawcliffe 0 Old Malton 1
After a five week break due to Christmas and postponed fixtures, Old Malton returned to action away at 3rd placed Rawcliffe who were two points behind the Malton table toppers. The game was played in horrendous weather conditions and the girls from both sides were a credit to their clubs. The pouring rain and wind made good football difficult but the game was exciting with play flowing from end to end. Chloe Smith in the Old Malton goal was in fantastic form making some key saves to keep Rawcliffe’s attack at bay. The visitors also were dangerous in attack and came close on a couple of occasions but couldn’t quite make the breakthrough.
The Second half continued where the first half left off. Alesha Wright had a great shot saved by the home keeper. Hollie Carter was impressive in defence, making some crucial tackles. Molly Skelton was driving the visitors on from midfield with her powerful runs. On 40 minutes the goal arrived. This was a goal fitting of winning any game of football. A marvellous run from Brooke Worrell saw her waltz round the Rawcliffe defence before producing a composed finish into the far corner to give Old Malton the lead.
Rawcliffe responded well and Old Malton needed all their character and fantastic team spirit to see the game out and claim the 3 points. The whole team deserves huge credit for their excellent attitude and desire to play in these conditions. This win is Old Malton’s 8th from 10 league games and keeps the team at the top of the league. Next Saturday Old Malton entertain Fulford at home.
