A NUMBER of pubs in and around Ryedale have been named in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2023 50th edition – with some being featured for the first time.
The Good Beer Guide is published annually by CAMRA and features the best pubs to find a great pint in the UK.
It covers 410 Yorkshire pubs, including 146 in North Yorkshire, out of 4,500 nationally. Breweries are also included.
Featuring in the 2023 guide is the New Inn, in Cropton.
The New Inn's offering includes a range of its own beers, brewed in the brewery at the bottom of the pub's garden.
General manager at the New Inn, Helen Robinson, said: “It’s nice to have local support.”
Helen added that the mention in the guide also puts the brewery’s name ‘on the map.’
The New Inn is to host a beer festival at the Cropton pub on November 18 to 20.
Over 80 real ales, craft beers and ciders will be on offer along with food and live music.
This will be the first time the festival has been held since 2019.
“It’s nice to have (the festival) back up and running again,” said Helen.
More information about the festival can be found online here: http://www.newinncropton.co.uk/beer-fest/
Also named in the CAMRA guide is the Royal Oak Pub and Kitchen, in Old Malton.
The pub’s landlord, Steven Purcell, explained that it is the first time the pub has been featured since he took over the venue in 2019.
Steven said being featured in the guide came “through hard work.”
“(The mention) is excellent because I thought we weren’t going to get in due to (CAMRA) having limited numbers (in the guide),” he said.
Steven explained that the pub celebrates the best of local breweries.

On offer are three guest ales which change regularly, in addition to one house ale.
The landlord explained that this variation has helped earn the pub a spot in CAMRA’s guide.
Also included in the guide is the Cobblers Arms and the Star, both in Filey, and also the Piebald Inn, in Hunmanby.
Further pubs featured in the guide are the Old Black Bull, in Raskelf, the Craft Bar, in Scarborough, and the Grapes Inn, in Slingsby.
Catharine Spooner, landlady at the Grapes Inn, said this is the first time the pub has been featured by CAMRA.
“It’s great (to be featured), mainly because we have been here for 10 years,” she said.
“It’s nice they’ve included us.”
The pub champions Yorkshire breweries and maintains a regular offering of at least three real ales.
