A BOOKSTORE in Pickering is set to host a children’s author and illustrator for a half term event.
Dawn Treacher will read at the Pickering Book Tree, in Market Place, on Thursday, October 27, from 10.30am to 11.30am to celebrate the launch of her latest book, a Pandemonium of Pattots.
The book is an action-packed fantasy set in a world powered by steam, and is aimed at children aged eight to 12 years.
It tells the story of Otto, an ambitious mechanic and creator of mechanical animals that live in the orangery.
When a break-in occurs and many parrots are stolen, the police blame Florence, a street child who sits outside the orangery and draws.
Otto and Florence work together to solve the crime, encountering pirates and an arch villain along the way.
At the event, Dawn will also lead a workshop where children will create their own mechanical creature to take home.
The book reading and workshop will take place in the children’s section of the shop.
Tickets can be booked online at https://www.pickeringbooktree.co.uk/events-1/dawn-treacher or at the shop counter.
