Charity champion Venetia Wrigley is taking up a key role with a Norton-based housing charity.

Venetia s the new patron of Ryedale YMCA which provides vital support and a roof over the head of young people needing somewhere to live.

A former High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Venetia, who lives in Ganton, is actively involved in helping a range of charities in the county.

“I have long supported the work of Ryedale YMCA,” she said. “The staff go above and beyond in working with young people.

“The team gives young people, many who have faced challenging circumstances, the opportunity to gain the skills needed to manage their own homes.

“I look forward to working with the charity as they develop and expand the much needed services they provide in our community”

Ryedale YMCA, based in Riverside View, Norton, provide a supportive housing environment for young people 16-25.

Howard Keal, chairman of the charity, said: “We are delighted to welcome Venetia as our Patron and the time, energy and experience she brings.

“She works tirelessly supporting local charities and has a real gift for making a real connection with people from all walks of life.”

“We are going into a challenging time with plans to fundraise to finance work to bring an upgrade to spruce up the accommodation we provide.

“It will provide an opportunity to give our residents in 14 flats a lighter and brighter place to live including upgrades to kitchens and bathrooms.”

The project has recently published its vision and plans for the next few years, and this is available on their website at www.ryedaleymca.org.uk

Although affiliated to YMCA England & Wales, Ryedale YMCA is a stand-alone charity, responsible for its own fundraising, managed by a local board of trustees.
