A NEW library box has been opened in a North Yorkshire village.
The library box was officially opened yesterday (September 12) at Manthorpe Park, in Thornton le Dale.
It was funded and installed by the Ryedale Lions and the Thornton le Dale Playing Field Association.
The box is aimed at children and offers a place for young people to access books free of charge.
Children are able to trade in books they’ve already read and exchange them for new ones.
The outdoor library box is open 24-hours a day.
Ryedale Lions service director, Andrew Mansfield, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the Thornton le Dale Playing Field Association in providing this very enterprising learning facility for children and young people.”
Claire Mullins of the Manthorpe Park Committee said: “We are very pleased to have the library box which encourages reading and discussion of the books and social interaction. It is already getting very well used.”
