A STALL at a popular Malton food festival will be selling water softeners after it was revealed that the town is an area with some of the hardest water in the North of England.
Water in Yorkshire’s Food Capital is composed of 112.4 milligrams per litre as calcium, according to Yorkshire Water.
Any amount over 80 milligrams per litre as calcium is considered to be hard.
Although there is no known health risks associated with hard water and Yorkshire Water don’t investigate or collect samples for hardness water softeners are available to purchase.
Water softener company, Harvey, will be at Malton Food Lovers Festival (August 27 to 29) showcasing their products.
A spokesperson for Harvey said: “Due to the mineral content of hard water, limescale builds up in the home – creating more work cleaning, clogging up shower heads and even corroding the insides of many household appliances and a higher energy demand for heating water throughout the home.
“Hard water can reduce efficiency of your appliances, putting a strain on bank balances across the UK. This lack of efficiency causes utility bills to rise and more maintenance repairs to pay for.
"Not only this, but households may even have to go shopping more regularly to purchase new appliances, as their lifespan shortens due to the build-up of limescale.”
