POLICE in Scarborough have taken action to cut down on county lines drug dealing in North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Police’s Scarborough Borough have been working with the British Transport Police (BTP) in an operation focused on county lines drug dealing.
The aim of the ongoing operation is to target those who are known to be involved with drug supply lines around the UK, to disrupt criminal activity, to gain intelligence and keep people safe.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police, Scarborough Borough, said: “In a recent patrol, 11 people were stopped and spoken to, 4 of these people were found to be in possession of drugs.”
PC Andy Gambles from Scarborough Neighbourhood Policing Team worked on the operation and said: “Working with BTP allows us to gain intelligence from a wider area, to disrupt the people involved with the organised crime groups, and to prevent them bringing drugs into our town.
“Our local knowledge of our communities can play an active role in safeguarding those who are vulnerable and may just need that helping hand to gain support.”
PC Nick Patrick, Beat Manager from Scarborough’s Community Impact Team, who was also involved with the operation, said: “I would also like to appeal to the community to help us.
“Sometimes there is a barrier with the Police, but we also know that our community has information which could help us to proactively act to reduce drug supply and ASB within our neighbourhoods.”
