A NORTH YORKSHIRE heritage railway has announced that it will resume full services from Monday (August 8), following a reduced timetables during the heatwave.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has announced the return of its Gold Timetable itineraries, after it limited services during the recent period of dry weather to avoid the risk of lineside fires.
During the heatwave, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service declared a major incident as they received 172 calls during the county's hottest day on record on July 19.
The major incident was later stood done by the service on July 20.
Chris Price, general manager at NYMR, said: “Working with our local stakeholders we took the decision last month to supplement our Steam Locomotive fleet with diesel engines assisting our trains, to minimise the risk of further fires.
“Now that we have finally had some rain, it’s great that we’re able to go back to our full steam service for the remainder of the summer holidays.”
Following this, the popular heritage railway has also announced that from August 8 to September 4, children aged 4-15 can visit the attraction for free.
