NORTH YORKSHIRE County Council (NYCC) are to outlined their approach to provide financial support for households, including council tax reductions.

A spokesperson for NYCC said that the council have set out an approach “running into millions of pounds” to support households struggling during the cost-of-living crisis.

Senior members of NYCC will consider cuts to council tax bills, including up to 100 per cent reductions for households on the lowest incomes.

The scheme will be discussed at a meeting next Tuesday (July 19) by NYCC, with the council tax reduction scheme to be introduced when the new North Yorkshire Council is established in April 2023.

A new unitary North Yorkshire Council will replace the eight local authorities, including Ryedale District Council and NYCC.

NYCC’s deputy leader and executive member for finance, Cllr Gareth Dadd, said: “Rising costs have affected us all, but it is those who are on the lowest incomes who are feeling the effects the most, and this new scheme will be essential to ensure that they are given the greatest amount of support possible.

“The new approach to providing the council tax reduction scheme will not only make it easier for people to apply for support, but it will also help streamline its administration when the new council launches next year.”
