A WELL-LOVED North Yorkshire pub has reopened its doors in time for the summer.
The Coach and Horses, located in Rillington between Malton and Scarborough, reopened under new management on June 25.
Owners of the property Pam and Steve Kent took over the property in 2018 and faced a series of closure during the Covid pandemic.
New manager, Malcolm Boanas, 63, started at the Coach and Horses one month ago and is determined to make a name for the pub.
He said: “I want to show the owners and community that this can work.”
Since taking over, Malcolm, originally from Whitby, has launched a new menu to complement the well-stocked bar.
He has also kept the 50-seater bar running smoothly with his team of seven.
Of these include his bar manager, who Malcolm credits for the premises’ upkeep:
“The place is spotless,” he said.
Malcolm explained that he is currently cooking the food, as he searches for a chef.
Since training as a chef in the 1970s, Malcom has made a strong return to the kitchen serving up signature pub classics including fish and chips, gammon, ploughman’s boards and mixed grills.
He described his dishes as “good, substantial home cooked food as local as possible.”
Alongside the traditional pub offerings, Malcolm has also been serving up his speciality dishes such as his favourite of a large filled Yorkshire pudding with onions and mash potatoes, topped with gravy.
He said this has been selling extremely well and offers a great pairing of ingredients for diners to try.
There are also deserts available including a brownie and a gluten free summer fruit cheesecake topped with strawberries.
The food menu has now been up and running for one week and Malcolm explained that the first weekend attracted a positive reaction, with a full house reported on Sunday (July 10).
“We were busy all the time – it has been fantastic,” he said.
“It has been very good - I have been pleasantly surprised.”
Many regulars have returned to their beloved pub, with Malcolm often being told: “We’re so delighted you’re open.”
The Coach and Horses’ location on Scarborough Road, has also made the pub a perfect halfway point for day trippers to fuel up on their way to the coast.
Malcolm has said that, given the bar’s relatively small size, bookings are encouraged to avoid disappointment.
The Coach and Horses is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
It is open from 12pm Wednesday to Sunday and from 4pm on a Tuesday.
