A local village event returned after a two year absence this week.
Slingsby Village hosted their popular May Day event at The Green on Monday (May 2).
Pupils from Slingsby Community Primary School performed a Maypole dance around a newly refurbed maypole on site.
A spokesperson from Friends of Slingsby School (FOSS) said: "The children had been learning the dances for six weeks in an after-school club. On the day, the nerves were high but they were keen to get out and perform. The weather was kind to us and the rain that threatened never actually arrived. The dancers performed a programme of six dances including the Single Plait, Spider’s Web and Double Barber’s Pole."
This year, the performance invited families to join in the performance, which was accompanied by two accordionists and a fiddle player who played the traditional music for the dances.
FOSS added: "Mums, aunties, Dads, Grandparents, all ages stepped up and took the ribbons ready to take on the challenge. Great fun was had by all despite a few mishaps and tangled ribbons along the way. We will definitely keep this part of the programme in as a regular slot as it went down so well with the crowds."
There was also a performance from the Swinton Training Brass Band and the popular Scarecrow Trail also returned.
"Everyone agreed that after the long break it was really good to see The Green full of families enjoying a day out."
