Norton-based butchers, Nesfield and Piercy, is at the heart of Norton’s community and is a family run business.
Prior to owning their popular business, Darren Nesfield and Martyn Piercy were both employed in farm shops.
Five years ago, they joined together and opened Nesfield and Piercy Family Butchers and have seen their business grow year on year.
The shop now employs three additional members of staff, including an apprentice, who work together to deliver high quality produce to their local community.
For Darren and Martyn, their favourite part of the job is serving their customers, who, they say, are vital to their success.
They said: “It has to be the customers because without them, we wouldn’t be in business!”
The pandemic has taken a toll on local businesses across Ryedale, though many like Nesfield and Piercy have used the opportunity as motivation.
“The past couple of years has been tough. Although, for us, it boosted our business nicely and has really helped us kick on and grow.”
The team introduced a free delivery service in Ryedale during lockdown to help get their stock out to loyal customers.
They also increased their online presence to keep their customers engaged with their business – utilising social media to share their hard work despite closures forced on them by the pandemic.
Even now, they run weekly competitions and advertise their latest offers on Facebook, which has proved popular with their online community.
Their stock has also taken them to local markets such as Hovingham Village Market where they sell their popular pies.
Being part of Norton’s high street is important to this business that values every customer who walks through its doors.
The team say it is “great to be involved” in local business in this area.
They credit this to a “wonderful community spirit” around the town and everyone at Nesfield and Piercy Family Butchers is proud to be part of it.
