Three years ago, Lauren Addinall became the owner of Yorkshire’s best beauty salon – Number One Health & Beauty in Malton.

She has been a beauty therapist for 10 years and gained her experience at a spa before initially joining Number One as their deputy manager.

Lauren’s dream was always to have her own salon and luckily, the opportunity to own Number One came along and she hasn’t looked back since.

The salon is now an award-winning destination for popular therapies such as facials, waxing, hair and nail treatments and their newest introduction, fat freezing.

Number One is now part of Malton’s thriving business scene where Lauren loves “being surrounded by local, hard working people” that support each other and she believes it brings Malton closer together.

“I have had the salon for three years this February,” says Lauren.

“We have all certainly had our ups and downs going through the pandemic but it is honestly the best thing I have ever done. I don’t see it as work – it’s my passion to make everybody feel amazing in their own skin and feel confident.”

Lauren is supported by three members of staff, who she says are “amazing”.

She said: “They truly are, they have stuck by me through thick and thin.” 

“My receptionist, Ruth, has been my rock. She is one amazing lady on reception – she greets you with such a warm welcome and a lovely smile.

“We have Jessica, who is my senior therapist and loves all treatments but especially Elemis Facials and I have Natalie, our junior therapist, who has been with me since September.” 

Lauren admits that it can be difficult to get a work life balance as a business owner but she loves being her own boss and thrives off her work.

This passion kept Lauren busy during multiple lockdowns, where she generously offered her time to shop for vulnerable people and volunteered for the vaccine rollout in York.

What’s more, Number One had its most successful year in 2021 when Lauren and her team won two regional business awards.

Now, they are hoping to clinch the biggest prize – a national award.

Lauren said: “We were nominated by the public at England’s Business Awards for the Best Beauty Salon in our county, we not only won for North Yorkshire but also for the whole of Yorkshire!”

There is a lot of pride in Lauren’s story and she is proving what hard work can achieve.

“Having my own salon has always been my dream. I was just waiting for the right time and place. I work endlessly at Number One Health & Beauty to make it the best I possibly can. I am still trying to find the work life balance but I love being in my happy place.”
