Tributes have been paid to a 'great family man' and popular teacher.
Peter Burrow, who taught rural science at Malton School passed away on October 20, aged 84.
Born in Bury, Peter was a keen boy scout and loved the cotton mills in and around the town.
He went to study for a BSc Hons in Agriculture at Reading University, then continued at Worchester training college for a science teaching qualification.
He later taught at Settle High School then moved back to Lancashire to teach at Selwyn Jones County Secondary School in Newton-le-Willows where he met Dorothy who was an English teacher. They were married in 1968.
Peter and Dorothy relocated to Norton in the early 70s after he was offered a position as Rural Science teacher at Malton School. Their daughter Renate was born soon after their move.
Renate said: "Dad kept bees and livestock on site at Malton School and many former pupils remembered this well and have talked about it with him and his family many years later."
At St.Peter’s Church in Norton the Burrow family sang in the church choir for numerous years.
Renate said: "My parents were involved in many of the church groups and were church wardens for many years.
"They also augmented St.Michael’s Malton church choir ."
The family took part in Malton & Norton Amateur Operatic Society musical and pantomime productions. Peter also acted with St Peter’s Players.
After retiring from teaching Peter worked in Market Research where he enjoyed interviewing a wide range of people particularly friends and former pupils.
Renate said: "Dad gave blood on 75 occasions gaining the Emerald Award from the National Blood Service. He enjoyed horticulture and was a very keen gardener.
"He will be remembered as a great family man and a teacher to many in the district."
Peter's funeral took place on Wednesday in St.Peter’s Norton.
