Feversham Arms Marks Promotes Spa Health & Wellbeing Benefits for National Spa Week

Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa is encouraging new members to embrace the health and wellbeing benefits of spa membership with a complementary Sacred Space full body massage experience for every new annual membership completed during National Spa Week (4th – 9th November).

Spa member, Janet Kerrigan, really appreciated the health and wellbeing of her spa membership, which includes access to the outdoor pool, to help complete her Swim 22 Challenge, the equivalent of swimming the English Channel, on behalf of Diabetes UK. Janet cites the benefits of the spa and facilities helped her to conquer the threat of diabetes and would encourage others to do so.

As a 54-year-old graphic designer, Janet openly admits to previously leading an unhealthy lifestyle. Her doctor raised concerns about obesity, arthritis and high blood pressure giving her the warning that without intervention, this path would inevitably lead to type 2 diabetes. As her weight and blood pressure soared and with the cloud of diabetes overhead, Janet realised it was time to take herself to task and make a change whilst she still could.

She joined a well-known weight-loss organisation three years ago to manage her weight. Suffering with two types of arthritis and an occasionally crippling back joint, to alleviate some of her symptoms, her rheumatologist advised that she take up swimming instead of high-impact exercise. This prompted her husband to purchase her membership to the Verbena Spa which included access to the outdoor pool.

“The results have been amazing” says Janet. “I lost four stone in two years and pleasantly surprised my doctor by avoiding type 2 diabetes. The regular swim sessions at the Verbena Spa have reduced my blood pressure and strengthened the muscles in my back which stops the crippling pain in my back joints.

“The effect of this has been amazing, I can walk long distances and climb stairs without becoming out of breath or being in pain. I’ve reduced the amount of medication I was taking, which has, in turn, reduced side effects. Overall I feel like a different person, I’m more confident, fitter and healthier.”

When Janet saw the advert for the Swim 22 challenge on behalf of Diabetes UK it really hit a chord with her, as someone in danger of sliding towards type 2 diabetes, she signed up immediately to support the cause.

Her spa membership gives Janet access to the facilities at the Feversham Arms Hotel as well as access to Verbena Spa, as part of her annual membership. She has used the outdoor pool on the Mediterranean terrace to clock up the miles of her Swim 22 Challenge on behalf of Diabetes UK.

She began her three-month journey across the channel in the comfort of the Feversham Arms pool and has just two swims left to complete this leg of the journey. Janet said: “It has been great to be part of the challenge and I am lucky to have such a fabulous outdoor pool on my doorstep.

“The team at the Feversham and Verbena Spa have been very supportive, encouraging me on the odd day when I was flagging. They have spurred me on to keep going, rain or shine. They have even given me a donation towards my sponsorship total which will go towards research to help others find better solutions for the care, treatment and prevention of diabetes to those less fortunate than me.”

As well as raising funds for a great cause, Janet has dropped three dress sizes, reduced her medication and is feeling fitter, healthier and stronger and would highly recommend taking up the challenge to others. She said: “I am halfway towards my £500 target and have signed up to Swim 22 again in November, December and January at the Verbena Spa.”

Verbena Spa manager Kelly Nicholson said: “Janet’s story is a fantastic example of the benefits of a healthy and balanced lifestyle and her spa membership has really contributed towards her general health and wellbeing.

“As part of National Spa Week (4th – 9th November) we’re delighted to contribute towards her Swim 22 Challenge. It is great to see her putting her spa membership to such good use. Not only is she really seeing the benefits of regular, low-impact exercise, her fund raising is going to a really good cause, supporting the research of Diabetes UK. We’ve also made a small contribution towards her target.”

New members who sign up during National Spa Week (4th – 9th November) will receive a complimentary Sacred Space full-body massage experience, a one course lunch and a glass of prosecco. The Verbena Spa hope that this will encourage people to embrace the long-term benefits of spa membership.

There are four levels of Spa membership at Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa Membership which include access to the hotel facilities, including the pool, treatments, discounted treatments and discounts on retail, food & beverage at the Feversham.
