An artist’s painting of her daughter has been accepted to the prestigious Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition in London.
Fiona Scott, who lives with her husband, Mark Wainwright, and four children Sam, Henry, Ted and Lily, at Sproxton, has been a professional artist since gaining a degree in Fine Art.
She said: “I returned to Helmsley in 1987and now have my studio at the farm where I paint predominantly to commission, mainly people and animals.”
Fiona, whose sister is broadcaster Selina Scott, said: “Over my career I have been fortunate to have exhibited in many prestigious exhibitions including twice at The BP Portrait Award, The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
The portrait of Fiona’s daughter Lily will be exhibited at this year’s Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition which received 4,401 entries from which just 122 were selected to hang.
Fiona said: “It’s the first time Lily has had her portrait exhibited in the RP, and she is thrilled. All her brothers have had their portraits hung there, as well as her auntie and my sister, Selina. Having a large family can have benefits - lots of subjects to paint. I painted this portrait of Lily about a year ago when she was 14. I wanted to capture a moment in her life when she was beginning to leave childhood behind.
