THIRSK & Malton Green Party is hosting an online meeting on Proportional Representation on Wednesday, February 3 at 7.30 pm
Proportional Representation is any voting system in which the share of seats a party wins matches the share of votes it receives.
The speaker for the meeting will be Laura Vinton representing Make Votes Matter – the cross-party organisation campaigning to introduce Proportional Representation to the House of Commons.
Laura said: “I am eager to encourage people to back changing our electoral system to Proportional Representation because, like seven out of every 10 people, my vote can be considered wasted in that it has not yet counted or had an influence in an election simply because of the first-past-the-post electoral system we use.”
She added:"With Proportional Representation, a system where all votes count equally and seat share in the House of Commons matches the vote share, instead of 71.2% of votes being wasted, less than 1% would be.”
