A HELMSLEY chef is fundraising for a cancer support charity by gaming live for 24 hours.

Ben Szandrowski, 22, who works at La Trattoria, in Helmsley, is organising a 24- hour gaming stream event for Macmillan Cancer Support, starting on Boxing Day at 5pm to the following day.

Ben is live-streaming from Twitch, the world’s leading live streaming platform for gamers, and playing a variety of games, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone.

So far, Ben has raised more than £229 towards his £1,000 target.

“Did you know, £1,079 could fund a Macmillan nurse for a week’s worth of vital cancer services for someone going through the darkest hours of their life,” said Ben.

“That’s 38 vital hours of services, support, understanding, motivation, a shoulder to cry on, a person to hug, laugh with and talk to with a a cup of tea.”

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.

It also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care

Ben added: “A Macmillan nurse is not just about the cancer they are fighting but are more like the family and friends they need to those beating cancer.

“I’m aiming to raise £1,000 and we need your support.”
