A COMMUNITY group is spreading some Christmas cheer to members during the coronavirus pandemic.
Thornton-le-Dale Women’s Institute, established in 1924, has delivered afternoon tea to members who cannot attend regular meetings due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
Members had previously planned an afternoon tea in December, but moved proceedings online.
“We had planned an afternoon tea for December, hoping that some of our members might be able to meet together,” said Margaret Smith, president of Thornton-le-Dale WI.
“However, this was not to be; so individual teas were delivered to members, many of whom joined a Zoom chat session whilst enjoying their sandwiches and cake.
“The teas were provided by Alison from Willows Catering and paid from WI funds. A very enjoyable end to quite a difficult year for many of our WI members.
“Thornton-le-Dale WI have been keeping in touch via WhatsApp, regular newsletters, socially-distanced walks and Zoom - we are hoping to be able to meet in person very soon.”
